According to the marque experts, just 140 Jaguar XJ-C 4.2s were officially imported into Australia in period, along with even fewer V12s (97 in fact). This 1976 XJ-C is an Australian-delivered 4.2 litre six-cylinder automatic that came fully equipped with velour trim, sound system, rear window demister, air-conditioning, power steering, power brakes, and electric windows, aerial and central locking. Delivered by Brysons in Melbourne in 1977, the early history of this XJ-C is unknown but by the late ‘80s it was in storage, where it remained for 13 years. Rescued, it underwent a thorough three-year professional restoration by Jaguar specialists – at a cost of a not inconsiderable for the time $35,000 – before being sold to our vendor in 2004. Work included an extensive rebuild of the body, which was refinished in Old English White, completed in 2001, and reconditioning of its mechanicals including the engine and gearbox, finished in 2004. The restoration work was extensive and detailed, and included things like body rubbers, a radiator re-core and viscous fan installation, new brake master cylinder, steering rack bushes, hoses, powder-coated steel wheels and much more. An English-pattern black vinyl roof was fitted, along with a new walnut wood dashboard, new fawn velour trim, carpets and even a new tinted windscreen. The speedo was reconditioned and zeroed (with a Statutory Declaration, signed by South Australian police!), and now shows just 26,000km (at the time of cataloguing). Always garaged, this 1976 Jaguar XJ-C also comes with some rebuild invoices and photographs, full service records since 2004 and notes on its earlier history. It presents in very good condition throughout, and would suit any Jaguar collector. Previously on Victorian club registration, the 1976 Jaguar XJ-C is being offered for sale here unregistered and with No reserve.
