This is an excellent example of a highly original Series II Jaguar XJ‑6. Manufactured in 1979 and showing just over 40,000 miles, it is finished in Regency Red with a complementary Tan Connolly hide interior and contrasting coachlines. First registered in the UK on 20th February 1979, there are only four former keepers recorded. The 4.2‑litre engine runs smoothly, and the three‑speed automatic gearbox operates quietly, changing gears just as it should at the time of consignment.
The coachwork appears largely unrestored, if at all, and although the paint presents a little dull, it could respond well to a thorough polish. Panel lines are crisp and straight, with excellent panel fit throughout. The wheel arches are clean and sharp underneath, with no evidence of filler, and there is no rust bubbling above the headlamps. Importantly, the windscreen surrounds show no signs of corrosion, suggesting careful ownership over the years.
Inside, the cabin exudes unmistakable 1970s charm. Featuring later‑style switches, dials and equipment, the Tan Connolly hide would benefit from re‑connollising and feeding, and the stitching is a little loose in places—though there are no tears or holes. All the electric windows function correctly. It is also likely that the car was fitted with its sunroof by the supplying dealer when new.
The engine bay appears complete and original, requiring only some cleaning and detailing to present at its best. The original jack and spare wheel are included, along with a toolkit (partially incomplete). The car sits on a matching set of Dunlop SP Sport tyres.
The accompanying book pack includes a service book with eight stamped entries as follows: Mann Eggerton 1,193 miles; Mann Eggerton 2,696 miles; unreadable stamp 5,894 miles; unreadable stamp 12,000 miles; unreadable 18,314 miles; Johnny’s Jaguar Daimler 22,625 miles; Johnny’s 24,500 miles; Johnny’s 33,336 miles; West Preston Engineering 39,167 miles.
Remarkably, the Jaguar red document wallet remains very complete, containing the Service Book, Leyland Cars Owner’s Service Statement, XJ‑6 wiring diagram, Jaguar XJ‑6 Driver’s Handbook, and the XJ‑6 Operating, Maintenance and Service Handbook. A folder of receipts is also included, along with a quantity of old MOT certificates dated between 1983 and 2006, and in excess of 25 old tax discs.
