This 1986 Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas was first registered in California and is said to have remained under the care of its original owner until it was purchased by the seller in 2012. The car shows 69k miles and is powered by a replacement 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Wearing a repaint in Cranberry over Doeskin leather, the car is equipped with a sunroof, a power antenna, 15″ Kent vented alloy wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, an AM/FM/cassette stereo, front bucket seats, automatic climate control, cruise control, and power windows. Service completed under current ownership is said to have included overhauling the suspension and replacing the headliner and alternator. This Series III XJ6 Vanden Plas is now offered at no reserve with service records, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The Pininfarina-styled bodywork was finished from factory in Cranberry (CEE), and the car was reportedly repainted in January 1989. Exterior features include a power sunroof, a power antenna, power-adjustable side mirrors, bright trim, Vanden Plas pinstriping, and dual exhaust outlets. Rust is noted around the rear windshield.
The 15″ Kent vented alloy wheels are mounted with Pirelli P4000 tires, and braking is handled by ventilated front and solid inboard rear discs. Rack-and-pinion power steering as well as independent rear suspension with twin-coilover damping, were equipped from the factory. One of the rear brake calipers leaks fluid, and service under current ownership is said to have included replacing the upper and lower ball joints, tie rod ends, steering rack boots, and shocks.
The seating surfaces are trimmed in Doeskin leather (AEE), while burl wood accents the dashboard, center console, and door panels. Interior equipment includes an AM/FM/cassette stereo, a trip computer, front bucket seats, automatic climate control, cruise control, adjustable rear reading lights, and power windows and locks. The headliner has been replaced under current ownership, per the seller. Wear is visible on the driver’s seat outer bolster.
The two-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as gauges for oil pressure, voltage, fuel level, and coolant temperature. The six-digit odometer shows 69k miles, approximately 15k of which were added under current ownership.
The 4.2-liter inline-six is a replacement that was installed in February 1992 by Sacramento Jaguar of Sacramento, California. Service completed under current ownership is said to have included replacing the alternator and fuel tank switch.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a BorgWarner three-speed automatic transmission. The seller notes that holes are present in the exhaust.
