This 1987 Jaguar XJ6 Sedan comes from the final year of the Series III version of this classic British luxury touring sedan. The seller describes the Jag as a "mostly original car," with a repaint in the original color after he bought it in 2011. The car also received a professional refurbishment of the HVAC system that included a conversion to R134a refrigerant, with work done by Authorized Imports in Flemington, N.J., an independent Jaguar specialist shop. Photos show the Jag to be in good condition inside and out, with some light wear on the leather seats, though more so on the driver’s seat. The seller says he has kept the car garaged when not in use. He also notes that the factory wire wheels were a less common option by the mid-1980s.
The Series III update to the Jaguar XJ sedan was more significant than a quick glance reveals. The refresh by Pininfarina updated the 12-year-old design, with a higher roofline, revised glass area, and tweaks to the front and rear. The result modernized the car while retaining the look that many felt was “classic Jaguar.” Chassis tweaks improved the already good ride and handling, prompting one major U.S. auto magazine to describe the Series III XJ6 as “one of the silkiest, most satisfying luxury cars available in this country.”
This 1987 Jaguar XJ6 reportedly has its original, fuel-injected 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six.
New, the engine was rated at 176 horsepower and 219 lb-ft of peak torque.
The seller acquired the car in 2011.
He reports having it repainted in its original black color right after buying it.
The finish still appears to show a deep shine in the provided photos.
The seats, carpets, and headliner appear in good condition overall.
There has been no body damage according to the seller.
Power windows and door locks were standard.
The car has a power sunroof.
The headliner was repaired at some point, he states.
Dual fuel tanks give a 25-gallon total capacity.
Photos show a mostly clean underside with oxidation on the exhaust.
The HVAC system was refurbished, with the A/C converted to use R134a refrigerant.
The XJ6’s factory wire wheels were an uncommon option in that period.
The car rolls on 215/70R15 Yokohama Avid Touring tires.
The original stereo was replaced with an aftermarket AM/FM CD stereo.
The original factory trip computer
A CARFAX vehicle history report that tracks the car from 1993 is included.
The car’s original tools and manuals are seen in the trunk photo.
NEEDS
The Jaguar’s engine seeps a small amount of oil from an unknown location when running.
The seller reports a minor scratch on the passenger's side.
Photos show what may be an oil stain on the trunk carpeting.
