This 1978 Jaguar XJ12L was dispatched to British Leyland’s Detroit, Michigan-based distributor on December 16, 1977, and it was purchased new via Hansord Pontiac/Jaguar in Minneapolis, Minnesota, five months later. It was soon relocated to Washington State, where it has since resided, and it was acquired by the seller from the original owner three years ago. Now showing 44k miles, the car wears an older repaint in Carriage Brown over Cinnamon Connolly leather, and it is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 linked with a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes 15″ ventilated wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, independent suspension, fog lights, burl walnut trim, rear-cabin climate controls, power windows, and a radio with an 8-track player. This Series II XJ12 is offered at no reserve with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, the owner’s manual, service records, spare parts, and a Washington title in the seller’s name.
The body rides on a 112.8″ wheelbase and was refinished in Carriage Brown more than two decades ago. The seller notes that they retrofitted European-specification 7″ outer headlights in addition to fog lights. Exterior features also include gold pinstripes, twin fuel-filler doors, and dual exhaust outlets.
The 15″ ventilated wheels are mounted with Falken tires. The car is equipped with an independent front and rear suspension, and stopping power is provided by ventilated front and solid rear disc brakes. The brake master cylinder was replaced in May 2023.
The front bucket seats and rear bench are trimmed in Cinnamon Connolly leather upholstery and are complemented by burl wood accents. Interior equipment includes a radio with an 8-track player as well as rear-cabin heating and ventilation controls, power windows, and central locking. The car has automatic climate control, although the air-conditioning system does not work. The stitching on the seats has perished, per the seller.
The two-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation. The tachometer does not work, and the right-side fuel tank sending unit produces a low reading, per the seller. The five-digit odometer shows 44k miles, approximately 4,200 of which were added under current ownership.
The 5.3-liter V12 is equipped with Bosch-Bendix-Lucas D-Jetronic fuel injection and was factory rated at 285 horsepower and 294 lb-ft of torque. The fuel pump was replaced in May 2024, and the distributor was overhauled in October 2017.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a GM Turbo Hyrda-matic 400 three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate shows production statistics, factory colors, and a dispatch date of December 16, 1977.
The Washington State title lists “Antique” in the Brands section.
