This 1976 Jaguar XJ6L is a long-wheelbase model that was refurbished and modified during previous ownership. Work performed consisted of repainting the exterior in blue, reupholstering the seats, replacing the dashboard and carpeting, and fitting a 3.6-liter inline-six and four-speed automatic transmission sourced from a 1990 XJ6. The fuel tanks were replaced in October 2021, and the engine control unit and front universal joint were replaced in October 2022. The car is also equipped with 15″ wire-spoke wheels, Dakota Digital gauges, a walnut-veneer dashboard, automatic climate control, power windows, and a Pioneer CD stereo. This XJ6L was acquired by the selling dealer in 2023 and is now offered in New York with an owner’s manual, a factory jack, partial records, and Alabama registration.
The car was stripped and the drivetrain was removed before it was repainted its current shade of Saab Nocturne Blue Metallic with red pinstriping during the refurbishment. Additional details include a “leaper” hood ornament, dual fuel fillers, and dual exhaust outlets.
Chrome 15″ wire-spoke wheels are mounted with 215/70 Pirelli P4 tires.
The refreshed cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench reupholstered in Biscuit leather, and the seat foam and carpeting was also replaced. A walnut veneer was applied to the dashboard, and a custom shifter and wiring harness were fabricated. Amenities include automatic climate control, power windows, a vanity mirror housed in the glovebox, and a Pioneer CD stereo. The top edge of the dashboard is worn.
The two-spoke steering wheel shows wear and fronts Dakota Digital instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and battery voltage. The digital odometer indicates 61k miles, approximately 100 of which were added by the selling dealer. Total mileage is unknown.
The 3.6-liter inline-six was sourced from a 1990 XJ6, and it reportedly had its head rebuilt shortly before it was installed. According to the seller, XJS 4.0-specifiation motor mounts were utilized along with an aluminum radiator said to have been sourced from a 1986 XJ6 and a Range Rover-specification intake. A custom fan shroud, coolant hoses, and exhaust system were also fabricated, and fuel-system components sourced from a 1986 XJ6 were also installed. The fuel tanks were replaced in October 2021, and the engine control unit was replaced in October 2022. Corrosion is visible on the underside of the hood.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission sourced from a 1990 XJ6 and installed with a custom-fabricated mount, and the front universal joint was replaced in October 2022.
The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for a vehicle of its age. It is being sold on its Alabama registration, which lists the car as a Vintage Vehicle.
