This 1976 Jaguar XJ12L is a Series II long-wheelbase sedan that is said to have remained under the care of its original owner for approximately 45 years and was acquired by the selling dealer, Gas Monkey Garage, in January 2022. The car is finished in brown over tan leather upholstery, and power comes from a fuel-injected 5.3-liter V12 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Features include chrome bumpers, four-wheel disc brakes, 15″ wire wheels, air conditioning, power windows, and an AM/FM/eight-track stereo. This XJ12 shows 12k miles and is now offered as part of the Gas Monkey Garage Collection at no reserve in Dallas, Texas, with a tool kit and a clean Illinois title.

The XJ Series II was introduced in 1973 and featured raised bumpers and a smaller grille compared to the earlier Series I cars. This long-wheelbase example is finished in brown and features US-market chrome bumpers with rubber caps, dual fuel fillers, and a driver-side mirror. Corrosion on the front valance and paint loss on the quarter panels can be seen.

The 15″ chrome wire wheels feature three-eared knock-off hubs and are mounted with 205/70 Michelin Harmony tires. A stamped steel wheel with an older Dunlop tire is mounted beneath the trunk floor. All V12-powered Series II XJ sedans rode on a 112.75″ wheelbase and featured a coil-sprung double-wishbone front suspension as well as an independent rear setup. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard rear units. Corrosion on the front brake calipers can be seen.

The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in tan leather with a color-matching center console, door panels, and headliner. The dashboard features a black pad with burl wood inserts, and additional equipment includes air conditioning, power windows, a Kienzle clock, and an AM/FM/eight-track stereo. Scratches on the driver’s seat bottom and deformations in the driver’s seat headrest can be seen.

The two-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 12k miles.

The 5.3-liter V12 features Bosch-Lucas fuel injection and was factory rated at 244 horsepower.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Borg-Warner three-speed automatic transmission. Moisture on the underside components can be seen along with rust-through on the exhaust.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
