Car sold on BAT on 7/25/17 For $7,600

    Auction description:
    Lot #5150
    Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
    Chassis: UE2T51101BW
    95k Miles Shown
    GM 350ci V8
    GM Automatic Transmission
    Refurbished Eight Years Ago
    Repainted
    Refreshed Interior
    Cold A/C

This 1974 Jaguar XJ12 was refurbished by the previous owner about eight years ago and is powered by a GM 350ci V8 mated to a GM automatic transmission. The powertrain was installed during the refresh, and a repaint and interior re-trim were conducted at the same time. The car was acquired by the selling dealer from the prior owner's widow five years ago, and it has since been driven about 4k miles. This Jaguar is now being offered for sale with records from the seller's ownership and a clean Missouri title.

This is a re-list after the car previously sold on BaT earlier this month and the winning bidder failed to follow through with his commitment purchase. The sale could not be not completed due to a buyer who backed out of the deal without a legitimate reason and not due to any fault with the car. That buyer has been banned from any futher participation in BaT Auctions and his buyer fee was not refunded.

Originally finished in Primrose, the car was given a high quality two-stage repaint in its current tan finish per the seller. The spare tire area in the trunk remains its factory shade. Panels appear straight, and there is reportedly no rust on the body, though some pitting is noted on the bumpers. New door and window seals were installed at the time of the repaint.

Seats were reupholstered in tan leather during the refresh, and new door panels, headliner, and a rear package tray were installed at the same time. A new dashboard was also fitted, and the restored wood trim displays a nice finish in the photos provided. The seller states that the clearcoat is starting to crack on the center console.

An older Alpine stereo was added, and all interior functions are said to work properly including the A/C. The 95k indicated miles are believed to be accurate.

The GM 350ci V8 with a four-barrel carburetor and automatic transmission were fitted eight years ago, and the seller notes smooth shifting and good power. Mileage on the engine at the time of the swap is unknown. Records from the seller's ownership are included, with a tune-up and oil change completed six months ago.

    Sellers description:
This beautiful touring car is an absolute pleasure to drive and is in fantastic condition. Turns heads everywhere it goes.

1974 Jaguar XJ12, which has been repowered with a smooth, reliable and powerful chevy 350 crate motor.

Zero rust, no accidents, body and pans are perfect. One repaint, extremely high quality and in gorgeous near flawless condition (a few tiny rock chips on the front). Original leather interior is beautiful, very soft with no flaws - perfect condition. Original wood is stunning, no cracks. Carpet is perfect and it has brand new custom made Berber carpet floor mats. Trunk is perfect, new fully lined carpet kit.

The air conditioning blows cold and works great, factory options including power windows, power door locks, cruise control all work perfectly. All gauges and switches work. No issues. Dual fuel tanks, both work great. Newish tires with almost zero wear.

Suspension recently greased and brakes inspected. Car handles great and rides like a dream - drives like a modern car not a classic, it's actually quite impressive.

Wonderful driving car with all the rewards of a classic English sports saloon but the reliability and power of a professionally installed stock small block chevy. Handles like a new car.

    350ci V8

    Edelbrock Carburetor

    Three-Speed Automatic Transmission

    Tan Paint

    Tan Leather Upholstery

    15" Wheels

    Chrome Bumpers & Trim

    Aftermarket Stereo

    Four-Wheel Disc Brakes

Private Party or Dealer: Private Party

    Lot #98307

This 1974 Jaguar XJ12L was refurbished under prior ownership and is powered by a 350ci V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. The car was previously sold on BaT in July 2017 and was acquired by the seller in 2021. Finished in tan over matching leather, the car is equipped with an Edelbrock carburetor, bright bumpers and trim, 15″ wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, and an aftermarket stereo. This XJ12 is now offered at no reserve with a removed steering wheel and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The seller notes that the body was refinished in its current shade of tan under previous ownership. Equipment includes quad headlights, fog lights, a driver-side mirror, and dual exhaust outlets as well as a chrome-accented grille, window surrounds, and bumpers. Pitting in the bumpers and cracks in the C-pillars are shown in the gallery. The seller reports that the driver’s door is misaligned and the high beams are disconnected.

The 15″ wheels wear Jaguar center caps and are mounted with 215/75 Michelin Radial XH4 whitewall tires. The inboard rear rotors and pads are said to have been replaced in 2021. The seller notes a power steering fluid leak and that the car pulls to the right.

The tan leather upholstery was reportedly installed in 2009, and additional work at that time included refinishing the burl wood trim and replacing the door panels, headliners, and dashboard. A Jaguar-branded clock and an aftermarket stereo are fitted. There is cracking and wear on the center console, and the horn and right-rear inside door handle do not work. The seller notes that the air conditioning does not blow cold and that the right power windows are slow.

An aftermarket wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The removed steering wheel is included in the sale. The five-digit odometer shows 4,200 miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The selector switch for the dual fuel tank system does not work.

The replacement 350ci V8 was installed in 2009 and features an Edelbrock carburetor with a polished air cleaner.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a GM souced three-speed automatic transmission.

    Seller's description:

For sale is my 1974 Jaguar XJ6L.  This car has recently been the subject of a comprehensive mechanical restoration/upgrade over the last 18 months, including:

The engine and transmission have been upgraded with a LT1 v8 and 4L60e transmission from a 1996 Camaro.  In stock trim this engine produces 285 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque.  The 4L60e transmission has a locking torque converter and overdrive 4th gear which makes for effortless cruising and plenty of power.  The car easily does 6 second 0-60mph runs.

The engine received new o2 sensors, new water temp, knock, and IAT sensors, a new serpentine belt and tensioner, new spark plugs and wires, new valve cover gaskets, a new 180* thermostat, and a new harmonic balancer.  The remote oil filter and oil cooler are plumbed with -8 AN braided hoses.  The transmission got a new filter and a new pan with drain.   A new transmission cooler was installed and plumbed with braided stainless steel AN hoses.  The motor mounts and transmission mounts are new.

The front suspension was removed from the car and completely rebuilt.  The front subframe was cleaned and painted with 2k paint.  The front suspension arms, splash shields, etc were sand blasted and painted with 2k paint.  The front end was rebuilt with either genuine Jaguar bushings or SuperFlex poly suspension bushings.  New ball joints and Bilstein shocks were installed.

The steering rack has been upgraded to a rebuilt JaguarSports ZF unit.  Custom AN braided stainless steel hoses as well as a power steering cooler have been fitted.  The steering rack does not leak and provides excellent feel.

The complete brake system has been rebuilt.  There is a rebuilt master cylinder with a new fluid reservoir.  All flex hoses were rebuilt.  The front and rear calipers were sand-blasted, painted, and treated to stainless steel pistons.  New rotors were installed front and rear and the front wheel bearings were replaced at the same time.

The fuel system was completely gone through.  Both fuel tanks are new, as well as both fuel pumps, the changeover valve, and all hoses.  The fuel rail on the engine is plumbed with braided stainless steel hoses.  The fuel injectors were replaced with a set of flow-matched Bosch injectors and a new fuel pressure regulator was installed.

The rear suspension cage was removed from the car.  The cage was cleaned and repainted with 2k paint.  The axle shafts were sand-blasted, re-painted with 2k paint, and reassembled with new U-joints.  The inner and outer wheel bearings on both sides were replaced, and the left side got a new wheel hub.  The rear cage was reassembled with Metalastik bushings and new pivot bearings and seals.  The trailing arms were sand-blasted, painted with 2k paint, and reassembled with Metalastik bushings.  4x new rear shocks were installed.  The input shaft on the differential was replaced.

A custom drive shaft was made by my local driveline shop and two new u-joints were installed.

The HVAC unit has been upgraded to a Vintage Air Gen 2 Super heat + AC unit.  The AC blows cold and the heater blows hot.  The defroster vents work and the fresh/recirculate air works too.  The AC compressor is new, the condenser is new, and all AC and heater hoses were custom made.

The instrument panel wood was refinished and 6 new Speedhut gauges (tach, GPS speedometer, voltage, oil pressure, fuel level, water temp) were installed.  A Dakota Digital cruise control unit makes interstate cruising painless.

The cooling system was upgraded to prevent any over-heating concerns.  The radiator is a new cross-flow design system plumbed with silicone hoses.  The water pump is a new AC Delco unit.  The cooling fans are a new pair of Spal 11” fans controlled by an AutoCoolGuy PWM fan controller.  The PWM fan controller uses pulse width modulation of the current sent to the electric fans to only spin them as fast as current conditions call for.  Even on a hot summer day you can leave the car running in the sun with the AC blowing as the water temperature never comes close to over heating.

I bought a new set of exhaust manifolds and had them Jet-Hot ceramic coated.  The exhaust system is fully stainless steel from the headers all the way to the tail pipes and was welded with stainless wire with tri-mix shielding gas.  There is an X-pipe just to the rear of the transmission.

The car starts on the first turn of the key without hesitation.  As this is the long wheelbase L version the ride is incredibly smooth and very comfortable.  The v8 engine provides an excessive amount of power and delivers it smoothly and quietly, with only a mild growl when the throttle is wide open and the revs build.  In the last 12 months I have put over 9,000 miles on the car, including a 2,000 mile road trip from Chicago to Fairhope AL for the South Alabama British Car Festival where it won 3rd place as well as the award for the longest distance driven.

Included with the car is the log book with dates and mileage for all the work I have done.  Three volumes of the Chevrolet service manual are included, as well as a thick folder of all the receipts I have for the car.  I also have several boxes of spare parts as well as a large box with most of the nuts and bolts I removed from the car (when I remove nuts/bolts I like to replace them with zinc yellow-chromate hardware).

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
