Nearly forty years since this XJ6L left the manufacturing plant in England, finding a wonderfully preserved example is a rare occurrence, indeed. The British Racing Green Sedan for auction here is the epitome of Britishness: it oozes character and displays a patina that is irreplaceable.

The mellow body has a few touched-up chips, cracks, dings, rust bubbles and scratches. Although tired and worn through in some areas, the older paint is still driver-quality presentable (see detailed photos).

Some minor surface rust can be seen above and below but frame, sills and floorboards are SOLID and there is absolutely NO evidence of major corrosion, collision repair or any other mishap that would cause the enthusiast sleepless nights.

If you know just how rust-prone these completely unprotected Cats are, you will highly appreciate this marvelous specimen!

ALL GLASS is clear and un-cracked but some seals have dried out and should be replaced. Thankfully, brand new OEM replacement seals are included for the windshield and rear window. (see photo)

This XJ6 is mechanically as strong as it is cosmetically. In any climate, the powerful 8 cylinder engine starts every time, idles, revs and pulls effortlessly through the gears without hesitation. There is an audible singing noise that raises and lowers with the RPM; probably related to a bearing in the transmission or power steering pump. The car accelerates strong and smooth leaving no smoke in your rear-view mirror.

Warmed up, temperature remains absolutely stable, with no hint of overheating even after extended runs at high speeds.

The automatic transmission shifts very smooth and precise. The disc brakes anchor the car securely, in a straight line, and without any hint of fading.

Handling and braking are simple and superb with no rattles, shakes or pulls. All in all, this Jaugar is a joy to drive!

Most everything works on this XJ6L, from lights and switches to Ice Cold A/C. Despite its age, the car could be driven anywhere, even across the Country, if that's where you live.

Among the best year for the XJ Series, the 1974 L (Long) model has a reliable Chevy V8 and will never need Smog Check in California.
