Sellers description:
This is a Running and driving 1974 Jaguar XJ 12 L. This was Jags high end saloon for its era and this car was owned for most of its life by Pete Lovely who had an extensive racing career from the 1950's through 1980's. Pete drove Ferrari's and Lotus cars too many victories including the first race ever held at Laguna Seca. In his later years he drove this jag to many vintage motorsport events. Pete opened the first VW dealership in the Pacific NW in 1954 in Fife Washington.

Due to a failing water pump and Pete's health the car was parked in the garage at his Tacoma Estate 20 years ago where it remained un-touched until last year. My Dad and I brought the car from its slumber back to life. It is in remarkably good condition. No rust I can find at all. We replaced the water pump and had both fuel tanks cleaned and lined. We haven't done anything with the brakes but amazingly they still work extremely well and are not dragging. The engine starts easily and runs very strong. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly through all gears. The paint looks decent but is a bit dull in places especially the hood and trunk. The chrome is all very presentable. There is a wiper scratch on the windscreen but otherwise all glass is good.

The original interior is in very nice condition. The head liner is intact but hanging down a bit. The car has working power windows, door locks and sun roof. It has original air conditioning but not currently working (no belt on compressor). The odometer shows 50,037 original miles but the speedometer is not currently working so I can't be sure of how accurate this is. It's likely the actual mileage is close to this. All of the other instruments are working even the clock!

The tires all hold air and are useable but are quite old and should be replaced. It does come with a spare. Included is a Haynes shop manual and some paperwork from the early Eighties when Pete purchased the car.
It was last licensed in CA and comes with a clear CA title. The Jag does run great and is quite drivable but it has been in storage for a very long time and one should consider that it will probably need attention here and there.

The last picture (The montage of four photos) shows the Estate and garage of Pete Lovely where it was stored for many decades.

The Jag can be viewed by appointment in Snohomish WA

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
