Car returns to ebay 9/4/18
www.ebay.com/itm/1973-Jaguar-XJ6/113230683979
Opening bid US $6,000, no reserve, no bids 5 days left in auction, seller mcf757, car now said to be in Norfolk, Virginia, 82k miles.

Seller's description:
1973 XJ6 Series 1. While initially an automatic, a donor 2.8 liter series 1 was used to convert this car into a manual with overdrive. In addition, it has the European type cylinder head with SU rather than Stromberg carbs. It also has the correct distributor, which advances rather than retards the timing. This configuration gives considerably more power and the transmission with overdrive makes the car nimble.

The engine has been rebuilt with new rings, bearings, oil pump, timing chains, and tensioners. The cylinder head was redone. Incidentally, there was very little wear in this engine. The front suspension, front brakes, and hoses have all been replaced as have the draft shaft mountings. It has all new shocks, and the two differential pinion bearings have been replaced too.

This car is a delight to drive on the road, and the upgraded Daytona wheels make for a smooth ride. The paintwork on the car looks good from a far, but closer inspection shows crackling and ideally the car should be resprayed. It does not have much structural rust, but the front floor boards and jacking points will need to be replaced. It has a bolt on air conditioning kit, which will come with the car and is meant to be installed under the passenger's side console. As can be seen, the upgraded compressor has already been installed. The car comes with considerable amount of spare parts from the donor car, including electrical parts, cylinder heads, and the original wheels/hubcaps.

This 1973 Jaguar XJ6 spent time in Michigan and Virginia before it was purchased by the seller in 2018 and relocated to Oklahoma. During prior ownership the car was refurbished and modified, which included refinishing the exterior in red, installation of 15″ chrome-finished wire wheels, modification of the 4.2-liter inline-six with a European-specification head and twin SU carburetors, and conversion to a four-speed manual transmission. Additional work is said to include overhauls of the front suspension and brakes, along with a rebuild of the motor, and equipment includes black leather upholstery, power windows, and a Clarion radio. Recent work reportedly included replacement of the battery, heater valve, and clutch slave cylinder. This Series I XJ is now offered with recent service records, the removed factory wheels, spare parts, and a clean Oklahoma title in the seller’s name.

The seller states that the car was refinished in its factory Regency Red during prior ownership, and the paintwork is described as driver quality. Rust on the trunk lid is visible beneath the license plate, along with corrosion at the bottom of corners of the rear window, and the right-front door has been replaced. Rust is present on the front floorboards.

15″ chrome wire wheels with Jaguar-branded knock-offs and Primewell tires are fitted at each corner. According to the seller, KYB shocks were installed and the front suspension components were replaced during prior ownership along with the front brakes. The seller states that the removed factory wheels are included in the sale.

The cabin was reupholstered during prior ownership and is trimmed in a mixture of black leather and vinyl, along with charcoal carpets and wood paneling on the dashboard. Appointments include a two-spoke steering wheel, power windows, and a Clarion push-button radio. The blower fan works only on the highest setting, the B-pillar vanity lights and horn do not work, and the air-conditioning system is converted to R134a-based refrigerant but does not work.

Smiths instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline, a clock, and gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, oil pressure, and battery voltage. The five-digit odometer shows just under 83k miles, approximately 1k of which were added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six is said to have been rebuilt during prior ownership with new rings, bearings, timing chains, and tensioners and fitted with an European-specification aluminum hemispherical cylinder head along with twin HD8 SU carburetors. The factory automatic transmission was replaced with a Jaguar four-speed manual transmission, although the electrical overdrive does not work. Previous rust repair is noted on the battery tray and the sheet metal between the fuel pumps. Maintenance since 2019 is said to include replacement of the battery, heater valve, clutch slave cylinder, and coolant header tank neck as well as deletion of the air pump and emissions control system and installation of PerTronix electronic ignition and a tappet hold-down kit.

The chassis tag is shown above and lists the Car No. as UD1L72622BW, and the Oklahoma title lists the car’s VIN as 1L72622BW.

The car is supplied with three keys, a Paint Code Certificate issued by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, and service records for work completed by the seller.
