This 1973 Jaguar XJ6 is said to have been refurbished and modified during previous ownership with a replacement Chevrolet 307ci V8 and a three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. The body was refinished in black over gray vinyl, and the car features an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, an aluminum intake manifold, an aluminum radiator with an electric fan, a custom exhaust system, later-model XJS 15″ wheels, and a Nakamichi CD radio. The seller acquired the car in February 2020 and has replaced the thermostat and flushed the coolant. This modified Series 1 XJ is offered with a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The body was refinished in black during previous ownership and features quad headlights as well as chrome-finished trim, grille, and bumpers with overriders. Cracking is noted in the finish of the driver-side A-pillar, passenger-side C-pillar, and the deck lid near the license plate.

Later-model XJS 15″ aluminum wheels are finished in black with silver lips and are mounted with Falken FK-06U tires. Braking is handled by power-assisted discs up front and in-board discs at the rear.

The cabin was reupholstered in gray vinyl during previous ownership, and other work is said to have included refurbishing the wood veneer trim and installing custom aluminum doorsill trim. Additional interior amenities include electric windows, power steering, a locking glove compartment, and an aftermarket Nakamichi AM/FM/CD radio.

The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and fronts a wood veneer dashboard that houses a 140-mph speedometer, a 5,500-rpm tachometer, a five-digit odometer indicating 41k miles, and aftermarket AutoMeter gauges positioned above the center stack that measure oil pressure, voltage, coolant temperature, transmission temperature, and fuel level. Both the speedometer and odometer are non-functional, and true mileage is unknown. The seller has added approximately 1k miles and states that the ignition lock cylinder and steering lock were replaced in preparation for the sale.

The factory 4.2-liter inline-six has been superseded by a 307ci V8 reportedly sourced from a 1970 Chevrolet. Features include an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, an aluminum intake manifold, an aluminum radiator with an electric pusher fan, a custom dual exhaust system using factory and later-model XJ8 mufflers. Other work reportedly included rebuilding and replumbing the dual fuel tanks to balance left-to-right when full. Results from a 2020 dyno test are included, and an April 2020 service reportedly included a coolant flush and an engine oil change as well as replacement of the thermostat.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed TH350 automatic transmission. Rust holes are noted in the rear mufflers.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
