www.bonhams.com/eur/auction/19292/lot/323/

Auction description:
Sale 19292 - Yorkshire Event Centre, Collectors' Motor Cars, Motorcycles and Automobilia, 16 Nov 2011
Harrogate, Great Yorkshire Showground
Lot No: 323
Offered from a single owner collection
1986 Jaguar XJ6 Series III 3.4-Litre Saloon
Registration no. C73 UPE
Chassis no. SAJJAALA3CC459772
Engine no. 8A016871H

Estimate: £1,000 - 1,200, € 1,100 - 1,400
Finished in Westminster Blue with grey cloth upholstery, this late Series III was acquired for the Collection in April 2010 and comes with Jaguar service history to 1989. It appears that a new speedometer was fitted in 1989 with the mileage recorded at 31,000, while 13 expired MoTs on file dating from '89 to 2009 suggest another 45,000-or-so miles have been covered, making a total genuine mileage of 75,000. Described as in generally good condition, the car is offered with sundry invoices, MoT to September 2012 and Swansea V5C registration document.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
