This 1986 Jaguar Vanden Plas is finished in Sage Green over Doeskin leather and was purchased by the seller from its previous owner in March 2018. Power comes from a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with an automatic transmission. Over the past few months the seller has had exterior repairs and paintwork performed as well as replacing the alternator, ignition parts, exhaust connectors, and tires. An engine oil and filter change was carried out and the air conditioning system was recharged with R12 refrigerant. This Series 3 XJ is offered at no reserve with recent receipts, factory books, a Carfax report, and a clean California title in the seller's name.
Rust bubbles at the windshield corners were repaired by Miller Auto Body in Pasadena shortly after the seller's acquisition. The affected areas were sanded or welded where necessary before spot repainting in Sage Green, and a new OEM windshield gasket was fitted. A few cracks in the older thermoplastic finish, several dings and scratches, and fading on the roof are highlighted in the extensive photo gallery below.
Four new 215/70 series Hankook Optimo H724 tires were mounted on the factory 15″ wheels in June 2018. The seller reports that the trunk lock solenoid only works when using the key and the windshield wipers operate solely on their low-speed setting. A new OEM retractable antenna was recently installed.
The Doeskin leather upholstery is reportedly free of tears throughout. The front and rear seats, headliner, door panels, and trim are detailed. Flaws include cracks in the wood dashboard and an inoperable cassette player, though the AM/FM radio reportedly remains functional.
The air conditioning system was recharged with R12 refrigerant in April 2018 and works well according to the seller. According to a service decal on the driver's door, the odometer was replaced and reset to zero in December 1990 at 40,227 miles. The replacement unit shows approximately 92k miles for a total of roughly 132k. The seller has added approximately 500 miles since acquiring the car in March 2018.
Under the front-hinged hood is a 4.2-liter inline-six, which sends power to the rear wheels through an automatic transmission. Over the past few months the seller has had the alternator, distributor cap, rotor, and ignition wires replaced along with the engine oil and filter. The idle speed has been raised to 850 rpm in an effort to combat rough running with the A/C on and the transmission in gear.
New exhaust connecting pipes were installed and the car passed a California emissions in April 2018. Invoices for the recent work accompany the sale, and additional undercarriage photos are displayed in the gallery below.
Per the accident-free Carfax report, this Jaguar has been in California for at least 25 years. Several mileage inconsistencies are reported, likely due to the aforementioned odometer replacement.
