Sellers description:
1983 Jaguar XJ6 saloon. It is rare in my business that I have the opportunity to get my hands on an automobile like this. However, once in a great while something like this finds its way to a dealership as a trade-in. This specific Jaguar was just traded in at Sun Motor Cars right here in Camp Hill, PA at their Mercedes-Benz store. It looks as if this XJ6 is an un-restored driver which has been preserved over the years. I would rate the exterior of this XJ6 to be in ABOVE AVERAGE CONDITION for an un-restored automobile of this age and mileage. It is finished in silver and looks good overall. It looks as if the hood has been repainted some time ago. The paint isn't perfect as you'd expect. It is a little faded on the roof and the fender tops. Everything lines up well and there is no noteworthy damage to report. The doors, hood and trunk all open/close properly with the distinct sound of an older European vehicle. There are a few small rust bubbles here and there but nothing bad. All of the glass and lenses are intact except a broken fog light lens. All of the chrome trim shows amazingly well and has a rich luster. The original wheels show very well and are wrapped in a matching set of tires with better than average tread all around.

I would rate the interior of this Jaguar to be in ABOVE AVERAGE CONDITION for the age and mileage of this vehicle. As you open the drivers door, you are greeted by a graciously appointed interior that has been remarkably well preserved over the years. The door cards are clean and tight. The rugs show very well for their age. The drivers seat cushion looks to have been recovered previously. The rear seat, passengers seat and drivers seat back appear to be original. There is some wear visible but far less than I'd expect for an un-restored automobile of this age. The dash is nearly flawless. The top is in excellent condition and shows no fading or cracking. The vaneers are also in remarkable condition. The arm rest shows minor wear but is in great condition for the age of the vehicle. All of the electronics appear to be in proper working order. The lights and turn signals work properly. The interior and map lights also work properly. The windows all raise and lower properly. The power sunroof opens and closes easily. Both power mirrors adjust with the touch of a button. The power locks also work properly. The climate control system is fully automatic and appears to be working properly. The air conditioner will need serviced as it does not blow cold air. The audio system is original. It sounds good and appears to be working properly. The glove box opens and closes easily. The original vanity mirror opens and closes properly. The ash trays appear to have been unused. Even the rear deck is in remarkable condition. The trunk is spacious and clean. It houses a complete took kit and a full sized spare tire.

Mechanically, this Jaguar appears to be in good running and driving condition. The 4.2L inline six cylinder engine starts easily and runs smoothly. I did not see any leaks and the engine does not smoke. I was very impressed with how smoothly this Jaguar runs. The engine makes good power and accelleration is impressive. The engine keeps excellent oil pressure and maintains proper temperature. The suspension feels good for an older vehicle. You can feel a tiny bit of play in the front if you're on gravel or going over very rough surfaces. During normal driving, she feels great. The steering feels light and neutral. The brakes stop this XJ6 with no issues. Out on the highway, she cruises easily with no complaints. The automatic transmission engages smoothly and shifts properly. This Jaguar is an absolute pleasure to drive. It has a brand new PA safety inspection good through 5/2014 and is ready to drive. I absolutely love driving this Jaguar. These are getting hard to find in this condition. In addition to being solid and mechanically sound, it is nice to drive a classic European automobile where everything works properly on the inside. Everything in the interior works as intended...right down to the onboard computer.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
