This 1985 Jaguar XJ6 is a two-owner Series III model with a 4.2-liter straight six and rebuilt 3-speed automatic transmission. Leased new at Performance Jaguar in San Diego, the car was subsequently purchased there by the seller in April 1989. It stayed in California until 2015 when a military transfer prompted a move to Washington DC, where it has since been kept in an underground garage. The seller has driven 90k of the car's 118k indicated miles and describes it as a nice example with a number of factory and dealer-installed options. Its sale includes records dating to 1989 as well as a clean Carfax report and a clear California title.
The body was stripped and treated to a three-stage repaint in 1993 in its original Regent Grey Metallic with the trim and seals removed. The resulting finish is shown up close in the photos below along with with occasional chips and dings collected since. Rust bubbling is detailed at both lower corners of the windshield and one corner of the rear window. Dealer-installed options include fog lights and Dayton wire wheels, which wear Michelin rubber from 2011 up front and 2015 in the rear. Factory wheels and center caps are also available.
The Buckskin leather interior is said to present well overall with areas of moderate wear, some color fading and occasional separation of cushion seams. The headliner is detailed in several photos which also demonstrate a functional power sunroof. Burl walnut trim extends to a shift knob that was ordered to match. Original carpets show minimal wear under embroidered factory floor mats according to the seller.
The electronic speedometer operates intermittently and the six-digit odometer shows just over 118k miles. An onboard computer is equipped along with air conditioning, though the blower is currently inoperative per the seller. A dealer-installed Alpine CD stereo is mounted in the center stack.
The 4.2-liter twin-cam straight six is paired with a rebuilt Borg Warner 3-speed automatic installed by a Jaguar dealership in September 2014. A new power steering rack and high pressure line were also fitted in fall 2014 along with fresh oil cooler lines and pressure senders. A new fuel injection control unit and catalytic converters were installed in 2011 at 90k miles due to an emissions issue. A replacement in-tank fuel level sending unit was also fitted. Brakes received a new master cylinder in October 2016 along with rebuilt calipers and hoses up front, while the rears are due for service according to the seller.
The Carfax report shows no accidents, thefts or title issues. Emissions tests have been passed regularly since the 2011 work, and the car retains current California registration despite its Washington, DC location. Included records date to the seller's 1989 purchase and are said to amount to over $22k in paint, interior cosmetics, repairs, and services. The sale also includes original manuals, tools, and warranty card along with a Jaguar car cover.
