This particular car on offer started life as a RAM D-type approximately 20 years ago. It was built and developed by John Ford who went onto build the 'Revival' series of cars with John Arnold at Revival Motor Sport. Some of the development work on this car was carried over onto the 'Revival' series of cars, which are considered to be the best of the composite replica D-types today. In fact this car was used for demonstrations by the company at Mallory Park in Leicestershire.

Mechanically the car is based on Jaguar running gear with a Jaguar 4.2 litre straight six engine fed by triple Weber carburettors. Cooling is via an aluminium radiator with an electric fan fitted. Drive is through a five speed GETRAG (Jaguar XJS) gearbox to Jaguar final drive. There are dual circuit disc brakes all round with coil over suspension and adjustable wishbones front and rear. The interior is functional, just as the originals with all the necessary switches readily to hand. The correct 16 inch D-type style steering wheel allows the driver to see the instrumentation and gives the car the period feel it deserves. The oil pressure and water temperatures read exactly as they should whilst cold and hot. The view over the bonnet surely gets the adrenalin pumping even when the car is at a standstill.

The coachwork is presented in the Briggs Cunningham colours and is in very good order throughout. She is complimented by a new set of alloy wheels and new tyres. On opening the bonnet the aluminium bulkhead along and triple Weber carburettors give the impression of an original. A plumbed in fire extinguisher system is installed along with an easily fitted and removable roll cage, hard tonneau for the passenger side and a soft tonneau for the driver side. This car has a feel of age that cannot be replicated out of a paint pot. A 'Revival Motorsport' promotional DVD is included with the car seen during the promotional shoot. There is also a clip of the BBC 'Inside Out' programme, within the DVD, with Ben McCarthy and Tony Jardine racing the Revival cars. In addition, this motor car was driven by Stirling Moss at Mallory Park during an F1 experience demonstration day; a photograph of Sir Stirling driving this car can be found in the history file. This D-type evocation represents one of the true great cars of all time. It is very exciting to own, drive and has good provenance. Being correctly registered as a RAM and with a current MoT test certificate and road fund licence she is ready to enjoy this summer by a proud new owner.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
