    Car offered at:

    www.carandclassic.com/auctions/1975-jaguar-xj6c-42-manual-lhd-nRdWo8

    Seller's description:

    1979 Jaguar XJ6

    Colour Silver

    Odometer 51,978 Miles

    Engine size 4235

    Seller Type Trade

    Town Ragusa

    Country Italy

Previously restored and in excellent condition

Very rare and desirable manual model with overdrive

    ASI-certified

    Only two owners from new

Kept in the garage by the owner who kept it with him for a long time

Used regularly for classic car rallies

The chassis number records indicate that this is a 1975 car, the 554th left-hand-drive 4.2 built in that year

    2,240 of the 3,899 left-hand-drive 4.2 coupes were built in 1975

The same records confirm that this car was fitted at the factory with a manual gearbox with overdrive

ASI certificate dated 5 November 2004 showing first registration in 1979

This may be correct, as coupés were often registered some time after construction

We are informed that the car has only had two owners from new

Italian registration document dated 12 December 2023

The document shows the same owner since April 2014

We are informed that the car has always been kept under cover by the seller and maintained periodically

The seller has used the car for classic car rallies

Presents beautifully in metallic silver with black leather interior

The paintwork was refreshed 10 years ago and, despite minor imperfections, is very well maintained

Very good panel alignment, particularly on the doors, which can be difficult to align correctly

No visible corrosion, particularly on wings and under doors

Chrome plating in good condition with excellent brilliance and no deterioration to report

Underbody is in good condition with no problems to report

Factory-fitted black vinyl roof is in good condition with no visible signs of deterioration

Standard steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and wheel covers and matching spare wheel

    Tyres in good condition

Original, elegant interior with a slight patina on the black leather and switches

Interior presents well and conforms to factory standards, including two-spoke bakelite steering wheel

Black carpets that are described as 'as new'

Equipped with an Autovox cassette player radio from the 1980s

Well-maintained wood panelling on the dashboard, as well as the instrumentation

Original tools and toolbox in the luggage compartment well maintained

The refined silver-on-black colour scheme of this lovely '75 XJ6C accentuates the car's elegant lines. The paint was redone 10 years ago and remains in excellent condition thanks to moderate subsequent use and careful garaging. The bodywork is similarly maintained, with good panel alignment and no visible corrosion in areas such as the wings and sills.

Inside, the condition is similar, with a highly original interior displaying a delicate and distinctive patina.

    The Mechanics

Jaguar XK straight-six 4,235 cc engine developing around 245 hp

    4-speed manual transmission with overdrive

The seller informs us that the car is mechanically in excellent condition and has no leaks

    Recent shock absorbers

The seller recommends a light tune-up due to limited use in the last period

Jaguar's XK engine originated as a Le Mans-winning powerplant in the 1950s, but proved so durable that it powered the company's cars into the 1980s. In the XJ6C it offers an appealing mix of performance and reliability, backed by excellent parts availability.

The car's 4.2 engine is mated to the extremely rare 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive, which chassis number records confirm was factory installed.

It is an excellent alternative to the more common automatic and adds to the often overlooked driving pleasure that is an integral part of the XJ experience.

This car has been carefully garaged by its long-time owner and rarely used, only for classic car rallies. The seller informs us that it runs well and has recent shock absorbers, but could benefit from a slight tune-up due to recently rather limited use.

Almost certainly originally Silver / Dark Blue like my 2J50041DN, this one still seems to have a factory original interior. Cheers!
