Auction description:
2016 Shannons Melbourne Summer Classic Auction
Lot 9
1971 Jaguar XJ6 Series 1 Saloon
Guiding Range: $10,000 - $14,000
Increasingly rare Series 1 Jaguar XJ6
Rare manual gearbox version
Extensively overhauled, sorted example
This rare manual XJ6 Series 1 was imported into Australia in 1973 after spending the requisite time overseas to avoid stamp and import duties, doing very little mileage in the UK prior to arriving on our shores. The Jaguar ended up belonging a collector in Tasmania who carried out extensive refurbishment, including replacing the engine and overhauling the entire front end, before passing to the most recent owner in late 2011. After driving the car in Melbourne for several months, the new owner decided to prepare the car for a trip to Queensland and engaged specialist Matt Belcher to carry out any necessary repairs. The running gear was completely gone over, with the diff removed and all rubbers, bushes, shock absorbers replaced. The brakes were overhauled with new hubs, rotors and pads fitted. In addition the clutch was replaced by Caulfield Jaguar and the gearbox overhauled (including the overdrive unit), while a manual choke was fitted and any electrical gremlins rectified. All work has been fully documented in the history file that accompanies the car, with in excess of $15,000 spent over the last couple of years. The owner has since completed a number of long distance trips interstate to QLD, NSW and South Australia, with the Jaguar proving utterly reliable and supremely comfortable. Showing 27,369 miles on the clock at time of cataloguing, this fully sorted XJ6 presents well in the period colours of white with contrasting red leather upholstery and would make a perfect club car. Currently registered on club plates in Victoria, the Jaguar will be offered unregistered.
